Landfill Tax increase

There's more reason than ever to find an alternative waste disposal system than landfill. As of April 2010 Central Government increased the Landfill Tax levied on each tonne of waste that is sent to landfill from £40 to £48 per tonne. Skip companies pass this cost on (plus a bit more) and so your waste disposal costs will increase by at least 20% even if you're throwing away the same amount of waste.

At Abbey, we work with one of our main furniture manufacturers ‘Senator International’ to provide a comprehensive recycling service for our customers. We are delighted to announce that Senator's recycling charges are not increasing and so recycling your furniture with us has effectively become 20% cheaper! In fact, for larger orders your recycling charge per item will actually be decreased, meaning furniture recycling is now both better for the environment and your bottom line. By sending furniture to landfill you are wasting valuable resources, throwing money away and potentially missing out on the positive Green PR and CSR that this recycling service can provide for your organisation.

WEEE items now on the recycle list

Senator has also recently been accredited by the Environment Agency to allow their furniture recycling facility to accept Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) items. They guarantee these items won't end up in landfill and as with the furniture and packaging recycling services certification will be provided to prove the items have been disposed of both ethically and safely.

Packaging Recycling Update

Senator can now accept all strapping (the thin plastic around pedestal boxes) to be put in the recycling bags they provide. Strapping is the latest item of packaging to be added to the growing list of materials that can be recycled, which also includes cardboard, paper, brochures, shrink wrap, stretch wrap, blue novafoam (desk edging) and expanded polystyrene.
